The Fonznik Services today comprise two components:
- Fonznik Dialler chatbot
- Fonznik Registrar service
Fonznik Dialler Chatbot
The dialler chatbot can be accessed by clicking Call the Fonznik on the web-app, or by calling one of the phone numbers on the home-page. See the Fonznik/Caller dialogue.
A phone-number dialler feature has been added that allows you to type the number to dial - Always starting with the country code - see Call Direct on the web-app. Calls made using this dialler are less expensive than using voice chatbot (no need to process voice instructions). The dialler also enables users whose language is not supported by the voice chatbot to use The Fonznik services. Additional languages are regularly added to the set of supported languages.
You can call The Fonznik voice chatbot from a phone (US and UK) or from any device that has a current web browser (click THE FONZNIK link at the top of the page). That can be from a smart phone, tablet, laptop or PC. All you need is a connection to the Internet.
The Fonznik call charges are a $0.05 connection charge for the Call Direct dialler or a $0.08 connection charge for the voice chatbot, and a per-minute call charge that depends on the destination number. (see THE FONZNIK utility -'Get the per minute Call Charge for a number')
Note: The number to dial MUST include the country code (this is the global internet after all).
Calls from a phone to either the US or UK Fonznik phone-numbers will be charged by your service provider at their standard rate.
After registering and having logged-in, you will need to top-up your account balance to make any calls using the Fonznik Dialler web-app.
Fonznik Registrar Service
Why do we need it?
A SIP phone does not need to register its presence with a Registrar service in order to make a call, but it does need to register to receive a call.
By registering its presence the Registrar knows:
- that the phone is online
- how to contact it - the phone's current IP address is logged
How it works
Calls to <you>@reg1.fonznik.com will be directed to your phone's registered IP address.
The Registrar also deals with issues like the phone being on a LAN, or using a different protocol to the caller. It makes sure that both you and the caller can hear one another.
It is worth noting that if you are calling someone who is also registered using the reg1.fonznik.com domain, then you don't need to specify the full SIP URI (<callee>@reg1.fonznik.com), just the other person's SIP username. It knows that both the caller and the callee are local to the Registrar's SIP domain.
The multi-lingual interfaces of the Fonznik Dialler chatbot can be reached from your SIP phone using a short-code:
